Black Sesame Hojicha Tea: A grounding winter ritual
Hojicha has been part of my morning rhythm for a while now. It’s what I reach for instead of coffee when I want something warm, comforting, and gently energizing without feeling overstimulated.
Lately, I’ve been amping it up with the addition of black sesame, and it’s become one of those quiet rituals that feels both nourishing and medicinal. This is very much in the realm of food as skincare, food as nervous system support, food as ritual.
Why Hojicha + Black Sesame
Hojicha is a roasted green tea, which makes it naturally low in caffeine and very gentle on the system. I like using the powdered hojicha from Pique because it dissolves easily, tastes smooth and toasty, and feels very clean and consistent.
Black sesame paste adds a rich, nutty depth and has long been associated with nourishment, minerals, and longevity. It’s one of those ingredients that feels both medicinal and glamorous, which is always my sweet spot.
Together, they feel grounding without being heavy, calming without being sedating. Especially lovely in winter.
This is what I love to sip while hurrying my kids out the door for school, or in the afternoon when I want something supportive without another stimulant.

Black Sesame Hojicha Tea (My Way)
Ingredients
• Hojicha tea powder (I use pique)
• Black sesame paste or freshly ground black sesame seeds
• Hot water (not boiling)
• Optional: a splash of MALK Caramel creamer
• Optional: honey or maple syrup (choose one)
• Optional: collagen powder
How I Make It
1. Add the hojicha powder to your mug and dissolve it with hot (not boiling) water.
2. Stir in about ½ to 1 teaspoon of black sesame paste, adjusting to taste.
3. Add a splash of MALK Caramel creamer if you want it richer, or keep it simple.
4. Sweeten lightly with honey or maple syrup, if not using the malk creamer.
5. If you use collagen, this is a great place to add it and stir well.
That’s it!

Notes:
This isn’t meant to be fussy or precious. It’s a flexible ritual. Some days I keep it very simple, other days I make it creamier and more indulgent. The point is warmth, nourishment, and ease.
A small thing, but one that gives a lot back. It tastes just divine!
